The star we all know and love from Home Improvement. He struggled with alcoholism, found God, and now has made another hit sit-com called “Last Man Standing.”
Of all the shows to be canceled by major networks, Last Man Standing’s cancellation after the sixth season upset more people than most. Many Americans found the show to be refreshing as it mocked Liberal ideology and logic, as well as creating an enthralling family dynamic and keeping many people laughing all the way through the episodes.
The show had a 1.7 rating among adults 18-49 years old and 8.3 million viewers.
The ABC network, where the show was originally aired, made this statement regarding it’s cancellation:
“A large part of these jobs are managing failure, and we have made the tough calls and canceled shows that we would otherwise love to stay on the air. That’s the job. I canceled Last Man Standing for the same business and scheduling reasons that I canceled Dr. Ken, The Real O’Neals, The Catch and American Crime,” ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey told reporters Tuesday ahead of her upfront presentation to advertisers. “Last Man Standing was a challenging one for me because it was a steady performer in the ratings, but once we made the decision not to continue with comedies on Fridays, that was where we landed.” – ABC Entertainment President
While some have speculated that Tim Allen’s conservative learning was the reason for the cancellation. Dungey again stated that she “wouldn’t say that was the deciding factor,” begging the question of whether or not it was a factor.
Tim Allen shared this tweet shortly after:
The show was picked up by the Fox broadcasting company just one year later. Also, a couple character replacements occurred including Mike Baxter’s daughter Mandy. The show survived though, and has just returned for it’s eighth season.
Gratefully,

I regularly watched Home Improvement which I found very funny, however, Last Man Standing is extremely funny. It hilariously covers everyday family life of a typical family with all of the problems we all have day in and day out, but Tim Allen puts a humorous tilt on it all. From his beautiful wife to his sexy but slightly flawed daughters and his slightly racist black neighbor to Jay Leno who makes me laugh when he walks into the room, I can’t imagine ABC cancelling their hit show from a Friday night lineup to spite themselves except for political reasons.… Read more »
Love “Last Man Standing”…….glad it’s back. What time on Fox and what night?
Last man standing doesn’t hold a candle to the previous Home Improvement. It’s an opinion of course but I watched Home Improvement every day, And the supporting actors are far above the Last man standing cast.
Last man standing is a show above the rest. It mocks liberals at the heart of their own lunacy. It also sends jabs to the right but then again not as much as ther’s not as much to mock. The entire cast is a joy to watch and is probably one of the best satire sitcoms to come around in recent times.
I’m. Very pleased to know that Tim Allen / Last Man .standing is returning to TV. Good show! Nice to hear occasional conservatism for a change, with a little humor and fun!
