Russian hackers were caught attempting to steal COVID-19 vaccine information yesterday.
The group, which American leaders surprisingly shared about in great detail, was the same one responsible for the attempted 2016 campaign interference: APT29, or “Cozy Bear.”
The U.S. also accused China of something similar on Thursday, but they did not go quite as far as naming the group or the software that the group used to pursue the malicious endeavor.
Officials did not release exact information in what had been gained by the intruders but did share what network vulnerabilities they were attempting to expose.
AP News summarizes the current tensions ontop of this Russia – U.S. hacking campaign:
Besides political ill will, especially among Democrats, about the 2016 election interference, the Trump administration is under pressure to confront Russia over intelligence information that Moscow offered bounties to Taliban fighters to attack allied fighters.
What are your thoughts on the Russian hackers?
