Trump ordered a Chinese consulate in Houston, Texas, to be closed due to concerns over espionage.
The FBI has started an investigation into Chinese researchers allegedly sent here by their military to get information from American public health systems.
This consulate is one of six Chinese consulates in the United States. The consulate in San Francisco is currently thought to be hiding a fugitive who lied about their military involvement to come into the US as a researcher on a work visa.
Fox News reported why the consulates were ordered closed:
The State Department announced it ordered the consulate closed within 72 hours after alleging that Chinese agents have tried to steal data from facilities in Texas, including the Texas A&M medical system statewide and The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. – Fox News
“The United States will not tolerate (China’s) violations of our sovereignty and intimidation of our people, just as we have not tolerated (China’s) unfair trade practices, theft of American jobs, and other egregious behavior,” she said. – State Department Spokeswomen Morgan Ortagus
What do you think? Should Trump have ordered the consulate closed? Why or why not?
