(StrictlyNews.com) – Americans can be forgiven if they’re asking why Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg is on paternity leave during the worst supply chain crisis in United States history. After all, work at the nation’s ports, where much of the bottleneck is when it comes to the supply chain crisis that has store shelves empty and restaurants without ingredients, falls under the job responsibility of the U.S. Department of Transportation – the department Buttigieg supposedly sits atop by presidential appointment.
Yet, after only a few months in a cabinet position many observers warned he was unqualified to hold, Buttigieg bugged out on “paternity leave” so that he and his husband could sit home with their two newborn infants.

Now, the good folks here at Strictly News have nothing against fathers – including gay fathers – staying at home on paternity leave with newborns during those first few critical months of a child’s life and development. In fact, in almost all situations, we’re in favor of parental leave for fathers and mothers.
Almost all situations.
We, and we suspect most Americans, draw the line when you hold a high public office like a presidential cabinet position with significant responsibility to perform your job for the benefit of the American people.
Yet, here we are as a nation, with jobs being lost because products, parts, and ingredients are not getting to American businesses and consumers, and we have a Secretary of Transportation who has been sitting at home for months with his husband and children while the nation suffers.
