(StrictlyNews.com) – Is the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders, Jon Gruden, a racist? That’s the question the Raiders and the National Football League are grappling with since an email authored many years ago by Coach Gruden – one of the league’s better-known coaches and a Super Bowl-winning coach – surfaced this week.
The email was about DeMaurice Smith, an African-American. DeMaurice Smith is the Executive Director of the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) – the association that collectively represents National Football League (NFL) players when they enter negotiations with the owners of the league’s teams. Evidently, angry at Smith back in 2011 during a player lockout when the email was written, Gruden referred to Smith as “Dumboriss Smith,” writing, “Dumboriss Smith has lips the size of michellin tires,” in an email to Bruce Allen who at that time was with the then-Washington Redskins, now the Washington Football Team. Coach Gruden has apologized and stated, in part, “I don’t have a racial bone in my body.” Now, the NFL and the ownership of the Raiders will determine if Gruden should be punished in any way for a statement he made in a private email ten years ago during a heated labor dispute between the NFL and the NFLPA.
What do you think? In your opinion, is Coach Gruden a racist?
