On the night of March 13th, three officers from the Louisville Metro Police Department were sent to execute a search warrant for Breonna Taylor’s apartment.
The no-knock search warrant was signed off by Jefferson County Circuit Judge Mary M. Shaw, the investigators were in search of a drug-dealing ring involving Jamarcus Glover and Adrian Walker.
The search warrant included Taylor’s residence because it was suspected that Glover received packages containing drugs at Taylor’s apartment and because a car registered to Taylor had been seen parked on several occasions in front of Glover’s house.
Officers Jonathan Mattingly, Brett Hankison, and Myles Cosgrove knocked and announced themselves to the apartment.
Taylor’s boyfriend, Kenneth Walker, fired a gun at the officers he believed to be intruders, who fired over twenty shots in turn. Taylor was shot six times in the hallway of her apartment, and Mattingly was injured by gunfire.
Officer Brett Hankison fired ten shots blindly into Taylor’s apartment
and has been charged with three counts of wanton endangerment.
Authorities found that the bullets fired by Hankison traveled into the neighboring apartment while three residents were home – a male, a pregnant female, and a child.
